چکیده

A 10 T racetrack magnet (HFDB-03) wound with pre-reacted Nb3Sn Rutherford cable has been fabricated and tested at Fermilab. This magnet is the third one in a proof-ofprinciple series for the use of the React-and-Wind technology in common-coil dipole magnets for future accelerators. It consists of two flat racetrack coils (28 turns each) separated by 5 mm. The maximum field on the coil, at the short sample limit of 16530 A, is 10 tesla. The cable has 41 strands with 0.7 mm diameter and the minimum bend radius in the magnet ends is 90 mm. The predecessor of this magnet (HFDB-02) reached 78 % of the short sample limit at 7.7 T. The mechanical design was improved and the fabrication procedure was slightly modified in order to address possible causes of limitation. In this paper we present the mechanical design and analysis of HFDB-03, the modifications to the fabrication procedure and the test results.

Development and Test of Nb3sn Cos-theta Coils Made of High-jc Rrp Strands

A series of 1-m long Nb3Sn dipole magnets have been built at Fermilab in an attempt to refine the wind-and-react technology for Nb3Sn conductor. Models have been made with MJR and PIT strand with varying degrees of success. Subsequently two new dipole “mirror” magnets based on RRP Nb3Sn coils were constructed and tested. This paper describes the design, fabrication and test results of those mag...

Development status of a next generation ECRIS: MARS-D at LBNL.

To demonstrate a Mixed Axial and Radial field System (MARS) as the best magnet scheme for future ECRISs, MARS-D, a demonstrative ECRIS using a NbTi MARS magnet is progressing at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. An optimized MARS design can use either NbTi or Nb3Sn coils with reduced engineering complexities to construct the needed high-field magnets. The optimized magnet design could enha...

Measurement of Ramp Rate Sensitivity in Model Dipoles With Ebanol-Coated Cable

Ramp rate sensitivity in superconducting dipole magnets has been shown to vary in an unpredictable fashion between magnets constructed using similar fabrication techniques. Test results from a series of model magnets are presented, one of which was constructed using ebanolcoated strands. The ramp rate sensitivity and ac loss observed is described.

Study of Impregnating Epoxy Resins for High Field Nmr Superconducting Magnets

NMR magnet coils are usually quite long, thick, and tightly wound with thin superconducting wires. The successful vacuum/pressure impregnation of such kind of coils demands the use of epoxy resins with superior properties such as low viscosity, long pot life, and high cracking resistance etc.. In order to find the most appropriate impregnating epoxy resin for the fabrication of high-field NMR m...
